Enhancing vitality, flexibility, strength, and concentration, yoga can be made suitable for all body types and fitness levels. 

 

IYENGAR YOGA

The world’s most widely practised method of yoga is that taught by yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. Through his thorough study, understanding and mastery of yoga, he won worldwide respect, making yoga relevant to people everywhere, no matter what their physical or mental abilities.

BKS Iyengar’s textbooks, in particular, “Light On Yoga”, have become classics for all yoga practitioners. He set a high standard for teachers and students. All teachers have to undergo extensive and rigorous training to achieve the Iyengar certification. Students learn through a programme of asanas (postures).  Pranayama (breath control) is gradually introduced when a firm base in practice is established.  

 

 

 

 

THE CLASS

The approach focuses on the practice of asanas (postures) with extension and alignment. Progression will be made from basic postures to increasingly refined ways of working, and more complex poses. 

The class is made very accessible to all, whatever your mobility* and constraints, learning in a small group, you will be given clear demonstrations, instructions, individual guidance and adjustment, to enable personal progress.  Helping to prevent stresses, strains, and aches, it will promote improvement in your everyday posture and relaxation, therefore physical health and general well being, raising awareness of both mind and body. 

 

INFORMATION

 

·         Medical conditions (and pregnancy) should be discussed with the teacher prior to the class in order to direct the most beneficial practice for you.

·         Do bring your own yoga mat and blocks if you have them.

·         Please arrive a few minutes before the class is due to start. 

 

You don’t have to be flexible! Suitable for all levels and ages, to stretch and de-stress, preparing you for the week ahead.

 

ABOUT CAROL

Carol has practiced yoga since the 1980’s.  She has taught in a variety of establishments and community settings, with groups of wide ranging abilities, since the 1990’s.  Qualified with the highly regarded Iyengar Yoga Association Teacher’s certificate in 1997, Carol sustains a continuous personal and professional development

Monday 10am – 11.15am (term time only)

*Classes are held in our coach house which is accessed via a flight of stairs.
